My wife wanted a new living room TV for her birthday. But we never spend much for our birthdays.
So we decided we’ll do a joint birthday gift since our bdays are close enough together.
The hunt for a new TV begins.
We currently have a 65” Sony Bravia that we got used a few years ago for about $450. It’s a great TV and that was a great deal at the time. Just showing it’s age with the smart TV functions and we also want something bigger (75”).
Went to Costco. Not much today.
Went to Best Buy. The young salesman basically tried to force us into some crappy Samsung TV just because it was in our price range. But I looked it up and it got terrible reviews.
Went home and did some more googling.
Discovered that the Panasonic W95A is basically the most praised TV in our budget (~$800). This TV comes in right at $800 but it seems to be the way to go.
RTings rated it very high for the price point: link
And everyone on Reddit praises it as well.
Part of that seems to be that Panasonic initially released it as a higher end TV around the $2300 mark when it was released. But people had forgotten Panasonic was good when they left the US market for a bit. So this TV was a flop and prices dropped down.
I was going to order the W95A and end this email there but I also learned something else that relates after continuing my TV search:
That TVs go on sale for the Super Bowl. Even more so than Black Friday apparently.
So now we wait for the Super Bowl and see what deals pop up. My hopes are to grab something even better than the W95 for around that same price range.
But it could be the W95 is still the winner in our budget even with better TVs on sale. Hopefully it’ll go on sale too.
